“The Grand Tour” returns in September with new hosts — will you be watching?

New faces of the cult car show

Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond said goodbye to their roles as hosts of The Grand Tour in the fall of 2024. Now, almost two years later, the program is returning with a new trio of presenters.

In a series of social media posts, The Grand Tour announced that the show will return on September 4th on Prime Video. The creators added that it is “the same show,” but with “new hands.”

Who will replace the legendary trio?

The hosts were announced earlier this year: James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, known from the Throttle House channel. They will be joined by the lesser-known train spotter Francis Bourgeois, who is only 26 years old.

Not much is known about the new season yet, and it is not even listed on Amazon’s official media calendar. In fact, the retail giant has said almost nothing about the reboot.

This does not inspire much confidence in the series, but there is still almost a month and a half left until the premiere. So there is plenty of time for teasers and marketing campaigns.

Fan reaction and prospects

The reaction from fans has been mixed. Quite a few people in the comments said they would give the updated show a chance. Others are less optimistic, claiming that “nobody is interested in this,” because it was the chemistry between Clarkson, Hammond, and May that made the original show worth watching.

It is hard to argue with that, as Top Gear struggled after their departure and has not aired for several years. Moreover, viewers had built a relationship with this trio over decades and were emotionally invested in their adventures.

Such a connection does not exist yet with the new group, but Holland and Engelsman will undoubtedly have great chemistry, as they have been working together for many years. They are also well-known in automotive circles, so they seem like a natural choice.

Considering all this, are you interested in the new version of the show and will you be watching it?

The return of The Grand Tour is a real challenge for the producers. History shows that replacing a charismatic trio that has become synonymous with automotive journalism is nearly impossible. However, the new hosts have their own audience and experience, which could be the key to success. If the creators manage to preserve the spirit of adventure and humor while bringing in fresh energy, the show has a chance to find new life. It is worth noting that the format of automotive programs is changing, and a younger audience accustomed to YouTube content may be more receptive to the new approach than nostalgic fans of the old guard.
