Missing Washers Cause Two New Ford Vehicle Recalls

Ford Announces Two New Recalls for Transit and E-Transit Vans

Ford continues to lead the statistics on vehicle recalls, and two more campaigns have been added to the list. Both concern the Transit model, with one of them related to a serious issue.

As could be expected, the first recall concerns the fire risk in 2026 model year E-Transit electric vans. It was discovered that the high-voltage battery in these vehicles may be missing washers. This can lead to high electrical resistance or electrical arcing, which, in turn, increases the risk of fire and potential loss of power.

98 vehicles are involved in this campaign, and the problem was detected due to the absence of conical washers on the bolts that secure the busbar connections inside the battery pack.

The issue became known last November when a factory worker noticed the absence of washers on two bolts. An investigation revealed that the cause was a supplier error during sorting, which failed to detect the missing parts at the production stage.

Fortunately, this turned out to be a rare case. Ford has not received any reports of similar incidents from customers and believes the problem affects only about 1% of the vehicles on the recall list, i.e., essentially one van. However, action will be taken: dealers will inspect and replace the busbar fasteners, and if larger problems are found, technicians will replace the busbar entirely.

Engine Mounting Problem in Off-Road Versions

The second recall concerns 1,403 Transit vans from the 2023 and 2024 model years, equipped with the off-road Trail package. In these vehicles, the engine mounts may not be properly secured.

According to regulators, the fasteners that secure the engine crossmember to the body may have been installed without the required washers. Over time, this can lead to connection failure, engine shifting from its position, and, as a result, brake failure or loss of power.

Ford learned about this situation last summer when it was discovered that the modifier of the Transit Trail model used alternative bolts, which also could have been missing washers.

Tests conducted by the company confirmed the possibility of engine shift and loss of fastener strength in assemblies without washers.

To date, no reports of problems related to this defect have been recorded. It is believed that washers are missing in approximately 1.1% of the vehicles on the specified list. Owners will receive recall notifications by the end of the month, and dealers will replace the engine crossmember fasteners.

These two cases well illustrate how critical even one small part, such as a washer, can be in a modern vehicle. In both situations, the problem arose at the level of suppliers or modifiers, highlighting the importance of strict quality control at all links in the production chain. Although the number of affected vehicles is relatively small and no incidents have been registered so far, preventive measures are a standard and necessary practice to prevent potentially dangerous situations on the road. For owners of these models, it is important to contact official dealers upon receiving the notification to eliminate possible risks.
