Stolen Ferrari Purosangue causes blackout in Miami during police chase
A high-profile incident occurred in Florida this week, combining car theft, a police chase, and a large-scale power outage. A stolen Ferrari Purosangue crashed into a power grid support structure in Miami, leading to a blackout in the surrounding area. A Rolls-Royce Cullinan was also stolen alongside the Ferrari.
Incident details and the police chase
The owner of two premium SUVs – a 2024 Ferrari Purosangue and a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan – arranged for their transportation from Miami to a local business. However, several hours later, it was discovered that the cars never arrived at their destination. Using a GPS tracker, the police quickly located the Ferrari.
Surveillance cameras and recordings from local residents captured the Ferrari, already damaged, making a sharp turn right in front of a police car, barely touching it, and attempting to flee. The vehicle was moving with a clear misalignment of the rear axle. Shortly after, the driver lost control, and the SUV veered off the road and crashed into a power line pole. The impact was accompanied by an explosion of sparks and led to a power outage in the area.

Driver’s arrest and the fate of the second car
The police managed to arrest the driver of the Ferrari, who turned out to be 28-year-old Deshon Prendergast from the Bronx, New York. After the accident, he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and then to a correctional center. He faces a number of charges, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing from police, and reckless driving. The court set bail at $5,650.
The second stolen car, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, was found by the police without further incidents or a chase.

This case once again demonstrates how quickly a car theft situation can escalate into a serious threat to public safety and infrastructure. The damage to the power grid caused by the crash affected the lives of many residents in the area, in addition to the direct material loss to the owner. The incident also raises questions regarding the logistics and security of transporting expensive cars, especially when it comes to such powerful and conspicuous models that can become targets for criminals.
