A new protest of car owners with European license plates is taking place in Kyiv. Undocumented cars have once again blocked Hrushevsky Street, causing heavy traffic jams in the city’s center.

Activists from the organization “Auto Euro Power” have staged a protest near the Verkhovna Rada, demanding the adoption of bill numbers 8487 and 8488 on affordable customs clearance, with several amendments. It is worth noting that the Yuzhanina’s laws were initially passed during the summer.

In particular, the protesters demand even cheaper customs clearance by removing the car age coefficient from the excise calculation formula.
As even after the adoption of the laws, customs payments will still constitute up to 40% of the car’s value.

Yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax and Customs Policy recommended approving bills 8487 and 8488 in the second reading. The parliament may consider them as soon as tomorrow, with deputies having proposed over 40 amendments. Interestingly, Nina Yuzhanina herself proposes a grace period. In the first 60 days of the law’s enactment, customs clearance at 50% of the new reduced excise rate is planned, and at 75% for the following 60 days.
