Maserati Owner Lost $107,000 After Less Than 800 Miles

Maserati MC20 Cielo Supercar’s Value Plummets

Even the most beautiful and technologically advanced supercars today are not immune to a sharp loss in value. A striking example is the Maserati MC20 Cielo, whose owner suffered significant financial losses.

The 2024 model year car, purchased new in February 2025, was recently sold for $213,000, although its initial MSRP was $319,395. In less than a year, the car had driven only 786 miles.

Expensive Options Did Not Save It From Depreciation

This convertible was painted in Grigio Incognito color, which accentuates the refined lines of the body. Despite the expensive add-ons, its value on the secondary market plummeted rapidly.

A $39,000 exterior carbon fiber package added exposed carbon on the hood, splitter, side skirts, and diffuser. The car also received 20-inch Glossy Dark Miron wheels and blue brake calipers.

The interior, finished in blue and black tones with Alcantara and carbon fiber, cost an additional $7,000. A Sonus Faber audio system for $4,000 and a multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support were also installed.

Technical Specifications and Market Context

Maserati developed an entirely new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine for the MC20, which produces 621 horsepower. In terms of its characteristics, it approaches the Ferrari 296 GTB, which also uses a 3.0-liter V6.

The owner stopped using the car back in November of last year, handing it over to a Mercedes dealer, who listed the car for auction on Bring a Trailer.

However, technical advantages proved insufficient to maintain the price. The MC20 demonstrates a significant drop in value on the secondary market.

This may be due to the fact that the Maserati brand does not have the same status as Ferrari. Moreover, for a little over $300,000, one can already purchase a low-mileage Ferrari 296 GTB, making the MC20 at its original price a less attractive choice.

This story clearly illustrates how unpredictable the exclusive car market can be. Investments in expensive options do not always protect against depreciation, especially when it comes to brands that do not lead the segment. The speed at which this Maserati loses value may force potential buyers to more carefully evaluate the long-term prospect of owning such cars, where emotions often outweigh cold calculation. The situation also shows how important for retaining value is not only the technical component but also the brand’s image and its perception in the market.
