Hyundai has announced a recall of 620 Palisade crossovers due to a risk of fire from insufficiently sealed electronic oil pumps.
Moisture ingress can lead to a short circuit in the pump controller’s electronic unit, creating a fire hazard.
Owners are recommended to park their vehicles outdoors until repair work is completed.
Manufacturers sometimes recall vehicles for various reasons – from minor issues to serious problems where important components may fail. In this case, a potential fire hazard was identified before it led to serious consequences.
620 Palisade vehicles from the 2025 model year are at risk. The problem lies in unreliable sealing of electronic components, which could cause a fire. Until repairs are performed, the company advises owners to avoid parking indoors.
The main cause is the electronic oil pump. On March 21 of this year, Hyundai received a notification about the issue from one of its suppliers. Just four days later, a batch of potentially faulty parts was identified. It was found that a damaged tool on the production line, specifically a spring, could have compromised the quality of the pump control board’s sealing.
If water enters through a defective gasket, it can cause a short circuit on the board and even ignite a fire. The manufacturer warns that drivers may smell burning or see a warning light on the instrument panel. So far, no cases of fire on the road or in dealerships have been reported.
In an official statement, the company reports: “Owners may continue to operate their vehicles, however Hyundai recommends parking them outdoors away from buildings until the repair work is completed.” The technical intervention involves replacing the oil pump control unit with a new one that has proper sealing.
Interestingly, information about the recall became known more than a month before the official customer notification. The manufacturer plans to send letters to owners and dealers by July 4, 2025. Those who want to check their vehicle immediately are advised to use the free NHTSA service, where by entering the VIN code, they can find out if their specific Palisade is affected by this recall under number 25V-291.
