Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Hood Scandal
Owners of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra electric car were left dissatisfied with the additional carbon fiber hood, which the company had positioned as an improvement for cooling. However, independent tests showed that the air channels on the hood are almost exclusively decorative. This caused a wave of outrage among buyers, especially considering the accessory’s price – about $5800.
As reported, bloggers conducted experiments that confirmed the absence of additional airflow through the ventilation holes. One test, described in CarNewsChina, showed the complete inefficiency of the design:
One blogger conducted a simple test by placing a piece of paper near the ventilation holes and putting a fan in front of the car. The result? The paper remained completely motionless, proving the absence of any benefit for cooling.
Company Reaction and Customer Demands
Xiaomi acknowledged the problem and apologized, stating that the hood was created primarily for visual effect, not for real performance improvement. The company offered owners the possibility to replace the carbon hood with a standard aluminum one or receive compensation in the form of bonus points. However, these measures did not satisfy the customers – over 300 owners are demanding a full refund for their cars.
This situation has become another blow to Xiaomi’s reputation after a previous scandal with a software update that significantly reduced the power of the SU7 Ultra. The company will have to carefully consider its marketing messages to avoid similar stories in the future. At the same time, the incident shows how closely modern buyers monitor the fulfillment of manufacturers’ promises and are ready to unite to protect their rights.
