According to new research, a record number of Tesla owners are trading in their cars for other vehicles.
The percentage of such trades has increased from 0.4% to 1.4% over the year and may rise even more.
Tesla owners have faced insults and attacks due to Elon Musk’s rise to power.
Tesla owners feel the anger of many people and it seems that some of them are already tired. New data shows a significant increase in trades.
Citing data from Edmunds, it is reported that “2017 model year or newer cars accounted for 1.4% of all vehicles traded in by March 15.” This increase from 0.4% last year is significant.
It was reported that this is a record level of Tesla trades for cars of other brands. What is behind this growth? There are likely several factors at play, including new competitors in the electric vehicle market.
Of course, there’s little doubt that Musk’s close association with President Trump and his status as an influential figure in government hold unconventional significance. Sheryl Crow said, “There comes a time when you must decide who you are ready to work with.”
Attacks on Tesla dealerships are catching public attention, and Attorney General Pamela Bondi recently stated that “If you join this wave, the Department of Justice will put you in jail.” However, Tesla owners have also become targets of hatred.
Several owners have reported being given the middle finger or cursed at, while other cases are much more serious. This includes actual vandalism, ranging from car damage to arson.
Regardless of the reasons for the changes, Jessica Caldwell from Edmunds said that the shift in “Tesla consumer attitudes might create an opportunity for legacy automakers and startups in the electric vehicle industry to gain an advantage.” Essentially, those who have previously opted out of Tesla might replace their electric cars with models from competitors — this could be good news for the latter, but obviously not for Tesla, which is not in the best position when it comes to sales recently.
