Volkswagen may sell Russian plant to Austrian concern

The Volkswagen AG concern may sell its production assets in Russia, which include a car plant and an engine production enterprise. The most likely buyer is considered to be the Austrian concern Steyr Automotive, owned by former Magna CEO Siegfried Wolf, who chaired the Board of Directors of the GAZ Group from 2010 to 2019.

It is expected that the assembly of engines and cars will continue at the Volkswagen plant, but under a different brand. Recall that the Russian Volkswagen plant was launched in 2007: before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Volkswagen Tiguan, Polo, and Skoda Rapid were assembled there.

Recall, recently in Austria, the car numbers of a Ukrainian were equated to Nazi symbols due to the letters NN and numbers 0088, which are perceived there as a tribute to Hitler.
