Volkswagen Multivan Gets A New Look, But The Real Upgrade Is Still Hidden

Volkswagen has unveiled the updated Multivan T7, which received a revised front end and new colors. However, the main updates, especially for the interior, are being kept under wraps until the end of summer 2026.

Updated Exterior Design

The design changes are focused on the front of the car. The minivan received a new bumper and more modern graphics for the LED headlights. The most noticeable change is the air intakes, which have lost the honeycomb structure of the previous model in favor of a more classic look. According to Volkswagen representatives, the new radiator grille and lower air intake visually emphasize the width of the car.

The side profile has remained virtually unchanged, but the color palette has been updated. Three new two-tone combinations have been added, including solid Candy White paired with metallic Grey Brown. For the first time, a matte body paint finish will also be available for the Multivan.

New Wheels and Hidden Interior Changes

The company also introduced updated designs for six alloy wheel options in 17- and 18-inch sizes. Furthermore, a slightly modernized version of the popular 19-inch Halmstad wheels, favored by buyers, was presented.

The official release did not contain interior images, but Volkswagen clearly indicated that the Multivan will receive “significantly more updates by the end of summer.” The company had previously hinted at “substantially optimized interior solutions,” which will include a multimedia system with a larger display and a simpler, more intuitive menu. These same changes will also apply to the California camper version based on the T7. The software updates are expected to be similar to those already announced for the all-electric ID lineup, including the ID. Buzz.

Powertrains and Technical Features

Under the hood of the updated minivan, built on the MQB platform, the hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive capability (1.5 TSI eHybrid 4Motion), introduced at the end of 2024, is expected to be retained. This system combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors, delivering a total output of 241 horsepower. It is also equipped with a larger 19.7 kWh battery pack, providing up to 95 kilometers of range in pure electric mode.

Among other powertrain options, traditional gasoline and diesel engines without electrification will remain. They may receive minor updates, potentially including a mild-hybrid system. More detailed information about the updated minivan is expected in the coming months.

The Multivan T7 updates demonstrate a gradual but important step for a model that combines the functionality of a family minivan with modern technology. The emphasis on updating the interior and multimedia system indicates that Volkswagen aims to improve precisely the driver’s interaction with the car, making it more intuitive and comfortable. This is especially important for a family car often used for long trips. Retaining the hybrid version with a substantial electric range aligns with the pan-European trend of reducing emissions, offering buyers a more eco-friendly alternative without sacrificing practicality and range.
