Volkswagen updates the ID.3 model under the name Neo

Volkswagen has confirmed that the updated version of its electric hatchback, named the ID.3 Neo, will debut in mid-April. The car will receive a number of hardware and software updates designed to keep it relevant on the market until the arrival of a full-fledged successor, currently known under the codename ID. Golf, expected by the end of the decade.

Updated Design and Style

The manufacturer has released official sketches of the upcoming novelty. The overall body contours remain recognizable, but new stylistic details have appeared, bringing the design of the ID.3 Neo closer to newer models, such as the future ID. Polo and ID. Cross.

The most noticeable change is the new radiator grille, which integrates the LED optics. The design of the front bumper has also become cleaner. The side view has hardly changed, but the rear has received new graphics for the LED taillights and the lower part of the tailgate is now painted in the body color. New colors and wheel designs are also expected.

The head of the design department, Andreas Mindt, noted that the goal of the update was to create “clean proportions, confident surfaces, and a sharper digital character” for one of Volkswagen’s most important electric models.

New Software and Interior

One of the main novelties for the ID.3 Neo will be the updated Innovision infotainment system. It will receive a built-in app store for streaming audio and video, games, as well as charging and parking services.

Inside, the company has finally abandoned the unpopular touch buttons on the steering wheel, bringing back familiar tactile physical switches. Furthermore, an option for a digital key will appear, allowing owners to open and start the car using a smartphone or smartwatch, without the need to carry a physical key fob or install a special app.

Updates for Other Models

It is important to note that the new software developed for the ID.3 Neo will also be offered for installation on other Volkswagen electric models, such as the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7. This will allow existing owners to gain some of the benefits of the updated interface and features.

The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo presentation will take place next month, after which all details regarding technical specifications, trim levels, and prices will be known.

The planned facelift of the ID.3 is a key step for Volkswagen in the competitive battle in the affordable electric vehicle market. The improvements concern not only the exterior but also those aspects for which the previous version was most often criticized by owners—namely, the operation of the multimedia system and inconvenient controls. The return of physical buttons to the steering wheel can be seen as an example of manufacturers listening to customer feedback. The success of this updated model could significantly impact the overall sales dynamics of the brand’s electric cars in Europe, especially in anticipation of more revolutionary novelties, such as the future ID. Golf.
