Updated Volkswagen Taigun for the Indian market
Volkswagen has introduced an updated version of the compact Taigun crossover for the Indian market. The car received an exterior that combines features of the brand’s Chinese and European models, as well as more technology in the cabin.
Among the key changes to the model:
Exterior and interior details
The front part of the car has been completely redesigned, resembling a smaller version of the Tiguan. It has become more modern thanks to a narrower grille, reprofiled headlights and cleaner bumper lines. The profile changes are minimal, except for new 17-inch alloy wheels and an updated color palette. The rear received LED graphics for full-width taillights and minor bumper corrections.
The top GT Line and GT Plus Sport trims stand out with black horizontal slats on the bumpers, corresponding wheels and red brake calipers.
In the interior, the main update was a 10.1-inch multimedia system and an 8-inch digital instrument panel for most versions. Ventilated front seats with power adjustment for the driver, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting and leatherette upholstery for the GT version have been added to the options list.
Technical features and competitors
The car is built on the MQB A0 IN platform, which is also used by the Skoda Kushaq, VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia. The powertrains remain the same: turbocharged petrol engines with a displacement of 1.0 liters (113 hp) and 1.5 liters (148 hp). The main news for the base engine is the new eight-speed automatic transmission replacing the previous six-speed one. The more powerful 1.5-liter engine still works with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. All variants are front-wheel drive only.
Production of the updated Taigun has already begun at the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited plant in Pune. Pre-orders are open, prices will be announced later. Among the main competitors in the Indian market are the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
The Taigun update demonstrates Volkswagen’s strategy of deep localization and model adaptation for key emerging markets such as India. Borrowing styling from a Chinese model and focusing on cabin technology at an affordable price is a direct response to the needs of local buyers, who increasingly value modern design and comfort. The choice of the Indian market for the premiere of this facelift underscores its importance for the group, especially against the backdrop of fierce competition in the compact crossover segment.
