Volkswagen Polo Says Goodbye to the Market with a Spectacular Smoke Show

High-Speed Video with the Polo WRC and Electric RX1e

The high-energy clip featured the VW Polo WRC and the fully electric RX1e rallycross car. Johan Kristoffersson also briefly got behind the wheel of the current VW Polo GTI in this short film. Last week, Volkswagen announced that their new electric hatchback will be named the ID.Polo.

50th Anniversary of the Legendary Polo

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary VW Polo, and before it is transformed into an electric vehicle, the automaker decided to celebrate its birthday with a high-speed video in the Gymkhana style. For a brand that is usually known for its conservatism, this short film is a real breath of fresh air for enthusiasts, proving that the brand still knows how to ignite the passion of car lovers.

Polo’s Rich Racing Heritage

Although the VW Polo is best known as a small and relatively boring hatchback that, unfortunately, is not sold in the United States, it has a rich racing heritage and has participated in the World Rally Championship, winning several titles. This video shows a pair of Polo WRC race cars, recently painted in special anniversary liveries, performing stunts near and inside the South African plant where the Polo is produced.

Stunts and Skill of Johan Kristoffersson

Behind the wheel is Johan Kristoffersson, who is not afraid to push the Polo WRC to its limits, sending it into high-speed jumps and drifting flawlessly around obstacles. One of these obstacles includes a road-going Polo driving on only two wheels, moving towards a parking spot.

Electric RX1e and Rallycross Success

In the second half of the Gymkhana film, Kristoffersson switches to the cockpit of the Polo RX1e. This car was developed specifically for the FIA World Rallycross Championship and is equipped with two electric motors that together produce 670 hp and 649 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. Kristoffersson is very familiar with this car, having won the world championship in it in 2022 and 2023.

Final Part of the Video and the Appearance of the ID.Polo

As the video progresses, the stunts continue until the driver finds himself at the factory and briefly drives the current Polo GTI through the parking lot before stopping next to the prototype of the new ID.Polo.

In our communications for the Polo anniversary, we want not only to look back but also to look forward and generate excitement for the Volkswagen brand. That is why we consciously decided to present the first appearance of the ID.Polo in an impressive and unexpected way. This video symbolizes everything that is most important about the Polo: a small car that can do big things and is future-oriented.

This celebration is not only a tribute to the past but also a demonstration of how the Polo continues to evolve, combining tradition with innovation. Electric versions like the ID.Polo indicate that even in a new era, the car can retain its essence, remaining a symbol of dynamics and reliability.
