Volvo integrates Gemini artificial intelligence into its cars
Volvo, together with Google, is preparing an update for its cars that will add the Gemini AI-powered voice assistant. This system will replace the current Google Assistant and offers advanced features:
Drivers will be able to use Gemini to search for route information, translate messages, or even find recipes. The system can also analyze emails and messages to find the necessary data.
Safety and the future of technology at Volvo
Volvo emphasizes that Gemini helps reduce driver workload, allowing them to focus on the road. The company has become Google’s primary partner in developing new features for Android Automotive. Currently, Volvo cars run on Android 13, but they will receive an update to Android 15 this year.
We strive to provide human-centric technology, and excellent customer experience is key. Thanks to our partnership with Google, we are the first to implement the latest features, — said Alvin Bakkenes, Head of Global Software Development at Volvo.
Other manufacturers using Android Automotive may gain access to Gemini only after a few years. This highlights the priority of collaboration between Volvo and Google in the development of connected cars.
The update demonstrates how artificial intelligence technologies are becoming an integral part of cars, improving not only entertainment but also safety. The implementation of systems like Gemini could become a new standard for other manufacturers in the future.
