Volvo appeals to 12 thousand owners: immediately stop using the one-pedal control function

Volvo recalls over 11 thousand cars due to brake problems

Volvo has announced a recall of over 11,500 cars due to a potential malfunction in the brake system’s software. Owners are recommended to temporarily refrain from using the one-pedal control function until the issue is resolved. Fortunately, the fix can be implemented via an over-the-air software update.

During regenerative braking, which is a key technology for electric and hybrid vehicles, a loss of braking function may occur. According to the report, the problem manifests after prolonged driving on a downhill slope for at least 1 minute and 40 seconds. If a malfunction occurs, pressing the brake pedal may completely disable the braking system.

Which models are subject to the recall

The recall affects the following Volvo models from model years 2020-2026:

The company plans to begin notifying owners by August 6th. Although officially 11,469 vehicles are reported, some documents mention a figure of 14,014 cars. The reason for the discrepancy in numbers has not yet been clarified.

It is worth noting that Volvo has not yet provided a detailed report on how the problem was discovered and what measures were taken to resolve it. This information is expected to appear later, as it is required by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). For now, the primary solution is a software update that is intended to eliminate the potential hazard.
