World Premiere of the Polestar 5
The Polestar 5 debuted at the auto show in Munich. This electric vehicle is focused on performance, offering up to 872 hp and 1015 Nm of torque. It is already available for order in the UK, starting from £89,500.
Design and Exterior
The Precept concept, introduced over five years ago, has finally been transformed into a production car. Although its release was delayed by a year, the Polestar 5 looks fantastic and is ready to compete with the Porsche Taycan.
The car is positioned as a four-door grand tourer, inheriting features from the concept, including dual headlights with Pixel LED technology. It is complemented by a stylish body, retractable door handles, and frameless windows.
Buyers will also get wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches, a raked windshield that flows into a long, sloping roof. The latter ends with a Kamm-style tail, but the most noticeable feature is the absence of a rear window.
Interior: Elegance and Minimalism
The interior combines minimalism and high technology: a 9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9.5-inch head-up display, and a 14.5-inch portrait-oriented multimedia system. The latter runs on a custom version of Android Automotive with Google integration.
The front seats, developed in collaboration with Recaro, can be upholstered in MicroTech leather or Bridge of Weir Nappa. They also feature heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
The car is designed primarily as a four-seater: the rear armrest folds down, revealing controls for the four-zone climate control and functions for the rear seats, which also have heating, ventilation, and massage. The seats recline, and passengers get additional legroom thanks to a special design.
Also present are a digital rearview mirror, carpets made from Econyl, and trim based on flax instead of carbon fiber. A standard 10-speaker audio system is offered, with an optional 21-speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins. Buyers get a massive panoramic roof over six feet long.
For luggage, there is 365 liters of space in the rear and 62 liters in the front trunk.
Platform and Powertrain
The Polestar 5 is built on a dedicated aluminum platform, the Polestar Performance Architecture. The model is equipped with a Brembo braking system, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and one mid-range radar, providing advanced driver assistance systems, including Pilot Assist.
The powertrain includes a 112 kWh battery and an all-wheel-drive system with two motors producing 748 hp and 812 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h. The WLTP range is up to 670 km.
Fast charging at 350 kW allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. For home use, the maximum AC charging power is 19 kW. The state of charge can be checked via an indicator on the C-pillar.
Performance Version
A Performance version is also available, with 884 hp and 1015 Nm of torque, reducing the acceleration time to 3.2 seconds but decreasing the range to 565 km. This model has a sportier suspension with adaptive dampers that react to road conditions in 3 milliseconds, as well as glossy black accents, golden brake calipers, seatbelts, and valves.
Availability and Pricing
The Polestar 5 is already available for order: in Germany, prices start from €119,900 for the base version and €142,900 for the Performance. In the UK, from £89,500 and £104,900 respectively.
The initial launch will take place in 24 markets, but North America is not included yet. Information on pricing and availability for the US and Canada will be announced later.
The Polestar 5 represents a significant step in the development of electric vehicles, combining high technology, performance, and sustainability. Its competition with the Porsche Taycan could stimulate further development in the segment, offering consumers more choice among premium electric cars. The growing popularity of such models could accelerate the transition to eco-friendly vehicles worldwide.
