Volkswagen announces pricing for the updated 2027 Atlas
Volkswagen has officially announced pricing for its updated 2027 model year Atlas crossover. The vehicle will arrive at dealerships in the fall, with a starting price of $41,610, excluding a $1,525 destination charge. This represents a significant increase compared to its predecessor, which started at $39,310 and had a lower destination fee of $1,475.
SE trim: Base level of luxury
While the $2,350 price increase may be an unpleasant surprise, the new 2027 Atlas offers more luxury and power. The base SE version is equipped with LED headlights, a keyless access system, a power liftgate with hands-free operation, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The interior impresses with the use of real wood trim and leatherette upholstery. The driver’s seat features 12-way power adjustment. Standard equipment also includes a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as heated and ventilated front seats.
Technology and Infotainment
The vehicle features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment system. Other features include dual wireless smartphone charging, a nine-speaker audio system, three-zone automatic climate control, and 10-color ambient lighting. Volkswagen also offers a three-month trial subscription to In-Vehicle Premium, which provides access to Wi-Fi, AirConsole gaming, the myQ smart garage system, and navigation with traffic information.
The suite of safety systems includes Park Distance Control and the ID.Drive package, which includes Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, and Light Assist.
SE w/Technology trim: More capabilities
The SE w/Technology version starts at $45,610. It features a more distinctive exterior with illuminated door handles and Volkswagen logos. Additional equipment includes remote engine start, 20-inch wheels, and a tow hitch, allowing for towing trailers weighing up to 2,268 kg.
Inside, it gets a 15-inch infotainment system and a rearview mirror with HomeLink. Expanded ambient lighting and a 115-volt outlet for the second-row seats are also added.
SEL R-Line: Sporty character
The top-tier SEL R-Line version costs $52,110. It is recognizable by its sporty bumpers, body-color side sills, and a darkened radiator grille. The model also features exclusive R-Line wheels, chrome window surrounds, and silver roof rails. Additionally, advanced LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and heated washer nozzles are installed.
The interior is upholstered in Varenna leather, and both front seats have 12-way power adjustment. The version also offers driver’s seat memory settings and heated and ventilated second-row seats. Other benefits include a head-up display, the Discover Media navigation system, stainless steel pedals, illuminated sill plates, and 30-color ambient lighting with an “organic spiral pattern” on the dashboard.
SEL Premium R-Line: The pinnacle of the lineup
The flagship SEL Premium R-Line version starts at $56,610. It is equipped with 21-inch wheels, power-folding mirrors, and projection lamps that display the Volkswagen logo on the ground.
The interior features Nappa leather seats with perforated headrests, patterned stitching, and a massage function for front passengers. A Harman Kardon premium audio system with 14 speakers and a subwoofer ensures premium sound quality.
Technical specifications and fuel economy
Regardless of the trim, all models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 282 horsepower and 349 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drive can be either front-wheel or all-wheel. Fuel economy for the front-wheel-drive version is rated at 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The all-wheel-drive version consumes slightly more: 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

The updated Atlas demonstrates a clear strategy from Volkswagen: to raise the bar for quality and technology, even if it leads to a higher price. The increase in engine power to 282 hp, the significant interior update using quality materials, and the expanded suite of modern safety and comfort systems make it a serious competitor in the large crossover segment. However, whether buyers will be willing to pay $2,350 more for the base version remains to be seen. It is worth noting that even the base trim now includes features such as heated and ventilated front seats, which were previously the domain of more expensive versions. Thus, the manufacturer is trying to make the price increase more justifiable to the consumer.
