In Australia, you can now purchase the extreme Isuzu D-Max Concept X off-roader. This unique vehicle, which was originally a concept, has undergone serious modifications:
From Concept to Reality
If the standard Isuzu D-Max seemed too ordinary to you, then the Concept X is the radically opposite option. This excessively powerful and prepared for the most difficult conditions off-roader has reappeared online after its premiere in 2018 and is now officially looking for a new owner.
According to Isuzu representatives, the entire project began almost as a joke when the engineering team saw oversized tires at an off-road vehicle exhibition. This random moment grew into the creation of two incredible cars: one based on the D-Max pickup, and the other on the MU-X SUV. Eight years later, the pickup itself appeared for sale, while its “brother” remained out of the spotlight.
Extreme Characteristics and Modifications
The Concept X is built on the chassis of the previous generation D-Max, but here the similarity with the production model practically ends. The exterior and technical part of the car have been pushed to the absolute maximum.
The vehicle is mounted on huge 38-inch tires for deep off-roading. The body received widened fenders, a special bumper, a hood with ventilation holes, headlights with a red tint, and a modified body on which two spare wheels are mounted.
The suspension received a colossal 7-inch lift, special shock absorbers with external reservoirs, and a five-link rear suspension with coil springs, which replaced the leaf springs of the original vehicle. As a result, the modified pickup has a front approach angle of 50 degrees, allowing it to overcome even the largest obstacles.
Technical Features and Current Situation
The concept retained the production 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine. This means it produces 174 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, which are transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. It may not be the most powerful vehicle on the trail, but it doesn’t need to be.
According to the listing, the vehicle is located in Welshpool, a suburb of Perth in Western Australia. The odometer reading is only 385 kilometers, which is a clear sign that it has spent almost its entire life in someone’s garage.
Sale Conditions and Limitations
The asking price for the concept is 65 thousand Australian dollars. This is significantly less than the cost of a new Isuzu D-Max in the top Blade trim, which starts from 78,990 Australian dollars.
However, there is an important caveat. The Concept X is not road-legal due to its extreme modifications. This limits its use to private property, special off-road tracks, or collection garages. Nevertheless, for the right buyer with enough space and a passion for unique vehicles, it could become the perfect toy.
The appearance of such a car on the secondary market is a kind of window into the past of the automotive industry, when concept cars often remained only show pieces. The fact that this development has found its potential owner testifies to the existence of a niche but dedicated circle of car enthusiasts who value rare and experimental models. Its fate now depends on whether an enthusiast is found, ready to purchase it not as a means of transport, but as an artifact of automotive engineering and design.
