You’ve probably never heard of this Porsche 911 model

Rare Porsche 911 GT2 R up for auction

This month’s auction will feature a unique Porsche 911 GT2 R, with an expected price that could reach 700,000 euros. However, potential buyers should be aware that the car requires a complete restoration before it can return to the track.

This 911, based on the 993 model, was created for racing in 1997. It was initially owned and raced by René Snell, but after a crash in 1999, the car passed to Klaus Abbelen, who restored it and used it on the tracks of Nürburgring, Monza, and Hockenheim. In 2014, a new restoration phase began, which was never completed.

Car condition and prospects

The auction house does not provide details about the scope of necessary work, but the car’s condition is far from ideal. The interior is completely disassembled, although some elements, such as floor mats and a Recaro racing seat, are included. The instruments and windows are missing. The engine in the rear remains a mystery—its origin and specifications are unknown.

This project is certainly not for everyone. It will require significant investments of time and money. But for a true enthusiast, it could be a unique opportunity to own a piece of automotive history. A car that once participated in legendary races and belonged to famous racers deserves a second life.
