Do you remember when Chevrolet quietly released a limited edition Colorado with a V8 engine?

Rare Chevrolet Colorado with V8 Engine

Modern Chevrolet Colorados offer everything you need, but lack one desired feature—a powerful V8 engine. However, in 2009, such an option was available. Although this version did not last long, it is still possible to find such examples on the secondary market. Two V8 pickups were recently sold for over $17,000, confirming their popularity.

The History of the V8 in the Colorado

Initially, the Colorado was equipped only with four- or five-cylinder engines. But after the Hummer brand was discontinued, GM was left with unsold 5.3-liter V8 engines. Since the Hummer and Colorado platforms were similar, engineers decided to install these engines into special versions of the pickups.

The 3LT trim with the V8 cost an additional $3995 and was offered in various body styles. The engine produced 300 hp and 320 Nm of torque, which is 60–115 hp more than the base versions. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h took 6.9 seconds, which is much faster than the standard models.

Collectible Value

A recently modified 2011 Colorado with 96,000 miles was sold for $17,500. Its engine received upgrades, including a new camshaft and exhaust system. Another, more original example with 17,100 miles was one of 312 extended-cab versions produced.

Today, there are almost no mid-size pickups with a V8 on the market, so fans of powerful engines are increasingly turning to rare models. These vehicles not only remain functional but are also gaining collectible status.
