Look Plausible: Images of the Updated 2028 BMW X5 and 7 Series Appear Online

The new generation of the X5 SUV shows radical differences from the previous model. At the same time, the updates to the 7-Series sedan appear more restrained. BMW plans to hold the official premiere of the updated 7-Series at the Auto China show next month.

Major Design Changes at BMW

The BMW Group is conducting a large-scale update of its entire model range, reorienting it towards a cleaner and more restrained design code, first introduced on the second-generation iX3. In parallel, the new i3 model, presented today, is being launched. Next in line are the facelifted 7-Series and the all-new X5. Alleged leaked photos of the future novelties have appeared online, and they look convincing. However, in the era of realistic images created by artificial intelligence, it is important to confidently assert their authenticity.

If the images are genuine, they appear to have been taken during an internal BMW presentation, where the presence of cameras is usually not welcomed, which could explain the unusual angles. The photos were published by several sources, including Instagrammer asatur.price and users of the Bimmerpost forum, and all claim an early look at the updated models.

Both models appearing in the photos match the hints the manufacturer has already made about the 7-Series, as well as the camouflaged prototypes of both cars that have been independently spotted on the roads.

Flagship Sedan Update

A low-quality image of the 7-Series appeared first, later another Instagrammer published an enhanced version processed using Google Gemini, as indicated by the logo in the lower right corner. The new luxury sedan will debut at Auto China in Beijing next month, but it will not follow the Neue Klasse design code presented on many new BMW models.

The photo shows that the front kidney grille remains as massive as on the current model, although it looks slightly wider and now has horizontal slats instead of vertical ones. BMW has also given it sharper and more aggressive split headlights, including narrow daytime running lights positioned on the sides of the illuminated grille. The lower part of the bumper is also updated.

X5 SUV Awaits a Deep Modernization

The new X5 model can be seen from both the front and the rear. The development of the next-generation car has been going on for quite a long time, and it has received a full update in the Neue Klasse style.

Like the new iX3, the SUV has received angular headlights that smoothly transition into small vertical kidney grilles. A large lower section of the bumper made of glossy black plastic gives the SUV a rather menacing look. As expected, the fenders and doors are also completely new, ensuring compliance with modern design trends.

The rear is also radically different from the familiar X5. It has received slim rear lights with intricate, curved LED signatures, rather than being a simple copy of the iX3 lights. The lower bumper also combines black and body-colored elements. This version also seems to feature four exhaust pipes, indicating it is a top sporty model. Unfortunately, the split tailgate characteristic of the current X5 appears to be gone.

Despite the fact that leaks often cause hype, they only partially reveal the picture. The official premiere always brings details about the interior, technology, and most importantly, powertrain specifications, especially in the context of electrification. Design changes, especially for an iconic model like the X5, are always risky, but they are also necessary to remain competitive in a market where design is often a key factor in choice. The success of these novelties will depend on how well BMW manages to combine bold external changes with improved functionality and the preservation of the qualities that customers have loved these models for.
