Kia Ends the Era of Gasoline-Powered GT Cars
Kia representatives announced that the brand will no longer produce sports cars with internal combustion engines under the GT badge. The only such model remaining on the US market is the K5 GT – after its production ends, all Kia GT versions will be exclusively electric.
“The N badge is increasingly being applied to electric vehicles, and there are a number of reasons for this,” stated Roland Rivero, Head of Product at Hyundai Motor Group Australia.
The Future of Sports Electric Vehicles
The decision to switch to electric drive is related to tightening environmental regulations worldwide. While this may disappoint fans of traditional sports cars, Kia and Hyundai are already demonstrating success in creating powerful electric vehicles. For example, the Kia EV6 GT is noted for its impressive dynamics, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is setting new standards for electric sports cars.
Interestingly, even brands like Porsche, which previously actively promoted electrification, are now revising their plans. However, the Hyundai Motor Group appears to be seriously committed to developing high-performance electric vehicles. Although the era of gasoline-powered GT models is ending, there is every reason to believe that future electric versions will preserve the brand’s sporting spirit.
