by A day before the official presentation, detailed data about the new Rivian R2 electric crossover appeared online. The publication Arstechnica managed to obtain and publish the full information, which was quickly deleted but had already been saved in archives.
Starting R2 Performance Model
The model debuting this spring will begin its life in the Performance version. Its starting price will be $57,990, excluding a destination charge of $1,495. This top version will receive an 87.9 kWh battery and all-wheel drive with two motors. The total system power will be 656 hp, and torque — 825 Nm.
The car will be equipped with a semi-active suspension. The stated range on a single charge reaches 530 kilometers. The fast-charging system will allow replenishing the battery charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes.
The interior will feature birch wood trim, front seats with heating and ventilation, and rear seats with heating. Equipment also includes a nine-speaker audio system, a built-in door flashlight, matrix LED headlights, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Options will include a subscription to the Autonomy+ semi-autonomous driving system and a towing package, allowing towing of up to 1996 kg.
More Affordable R2 Premium Version
Later this year, the appearance of a more affordable R2 Premium modification is expected, priced from $53,990. It will retain the same battery, but the motors will be weaker: 456 hp and 727 Nm of torque.
This version will not receive the advanced suspension, smaller 20-inch wheels will be installed, and the number of drive modes will be reduced.
R2 Standard and Base Models
An even cheaper version will be the R2 Standard, planned for 2027. It will retain the 87.9 kWh battery but will receive a single motor on the rear axle with 355 hp. This will increase the range to 555 kilometers.
The equipment will be simplified: a five-speaker audio system, heating only for the front seats, an all-black interior, no folding rear glass, and 19-inch wheels.
The most affordable base model will appear at the end of 2027. It will receive a smaller battery, providing about 426 kilometers of range, and its price will start from the $45,000 mark.
Dimensions and Other Details
The overall dimensions of the crossover are 4722 mm in length, 1984 mm in width, and 1699 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2936 mm. Ground clearance can reach 244 mm.
The car will receive a charging port for the NACS standard. The cargo volume with the rear seats folded is 2248 liters, and in the normal position — 813 liters.
A separate information leak reports that the R2 will be offered in eight colors: Borealis, Catalina Cove, Esker Silver, Forest Green, Glacier White, Half Moon Grey, Launch Green, and Midnight.
The appearance of the Rivian R2 is a key moment for the brand, as it is the first model aimed at the mass market. The strategy of gradually launching different trims allows the company to expand its audience and compete in different price segments. The success of the R2 could significantly strengthen Rivian’s position in the increasingly fierce electric vehicle market. The prices, especially for the base versions, make it a potentially attractive choice for those who previously only considered Tesla or traditional automakers.
