Xiaomi is testing a new two-seat coupe
Xiaomi, which has already established itself in the electric vehicle market with the SU7 and YU7 models, appears to be preparing a real surprise for speed enthusiasts. It is likely a high-performance two-seat coupe capable of competing with European sports cars and supercars.
Recently, a camouflaged prototype of this car was spotted in China being tested on a track. Despite the heavy camouflage, the design of the new model reveals familiar features borrowed from existing Xiaomi models. The most noticeable are the LED lights encircling the rear and the light strip, which appear slightly narrower than those on the SU7 sedan.
Aerodynamics and design
The main external feature of the prototype is a massive rear wing. It looks no smaller than the one on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and possibly even larger. Additionally, the rear of the car is equipped with a large diffuser inspired by racing cars. Such aerodynamic elements are typically installed only on vehicles that are meant to be truly fast.
The overall body shape resembles the SU7 sedan with its smooth and streamlined lines. This advantageously distinguishes the new model against the aggressive and angular forms often used by other automakers. Like the SU7, the rear fenders of the prototype have distinctive curves, but they have become significantly wider.
Technical details and assumptions
The images also show different doors and enlarged air vents behind the front wheels. The wheels, brakes, and side mirrors appear to be carried over from the SU7, suggesting the use of a shared platform or components.
Approximately 18 months ago, the Chinese technology company unveiled a four-motor platform for electric vehicles with active suspension and power up to 2054 hp. However, this powertrain has not yet been used in any production Xiaomi vehicle. A two-seat supercar with a streamlined body could be the ideal place for the debut of this unit.
Very few technical details are known about the new model at this point. There are suggestions that it could be the company’s new flagship electric vehicle. The smooth and elegant design of the coupe seen in the photos evokes associations with the best examples of the global automotive industry.
Given Xiaomi’s rapid development in the automotive field and their ambitions, the appearance of such a powerful coupe seems a completely logical step. This will allow the company not only to strengthen its market position but also to make a significant challenge to established players in the high-performance electric vehicle segment. For now, we can only wait for official announcements, but the very fact of testing such a prototype indicates Xiaomi’s serious intentions to go beyond the mass market and create a true technological masterpiece that could revolutionize the concept of what a modern supercar should be.
