Xiaomi YU7 – A New Electric SUV from China
The Chinese company Xiaomi has introduced its new electric SUV – the YU7, which is set to become a competitor for the Tesla Model Y. The car offers up to 681 hp and a design reminiscent of the Ferrari Purosangue with elements of McLaren. The price of the base version in China starts from $34,500, while the top trim costs $44,700.
The standard rear-wheel-drive version of the YU7 has a range of 830 km (according to the CLTC cycle) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The Pro version with all-wheel drive offers 489 hp and a range of 770 km. The most powerful Max model is equipped with two engines (681 hp) and reaches 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds.
Xiaomi reported that within the first hour of pre-orders, the YU7 received over 289,000 applications.
Design and Technology
The YU7 stands out with its aerodynamic design, featuring a drag coefficient of 0.245. The car has a panoramic roof, LED headlights, and rear lights in the form of ‘halos’. The interior boasts a minimalist design with large screens, including a 43.3-inch display on the dashboard.
Technical features include an air suspension, adaptive dampers, and a Brembo braking system. The model is also equipped with an autonomous driving system featuring lidar, radars, and cameras.
The Chinese electric vehicle market continues to develop rapidly, and the launch of the YU7 could significantly intensify competition. Demand for the new model has already exceeded expectations, indicating growing trust in brands that were not previously associated with the automotive industry. It will be interesting to see how traditional manufacturers, such as Tesla, which currently holds leadership in the segment, will react to this.
