Leapmotor C10: A New Electric Crossover from China
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Leapmotor, founded in 2015 as a startup, has introduced its new crossover, the C10. This model is part of the brand’s strategy to enter the international market, especially after establishing a joint venture with Stellantis in 2023. The C10 is positioned as a competitor to models like the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV5.
In Europe and Australia, the C10 appeared in late 2024. It offers one rear-wheel drive electric variant, as well as a hybrid version. The base price in Australia is approximately $30,100, making it cheaper than similar competitor models.
Technical Specifications
Interior and Technology
The C10’s interior is executed in a minimalist style with a large 14.6-inch multimedia screen and a digital instrument panel. The interface is fast and functional, but the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto may disappoint some buyers. As with many modern electric cars, physical buttons are kept to a minimum, which can complicate the use of some functions while driving.
«Leapmotor’s choice of materials at this price point has to be commended. The dashboard, seats, door panels, center console, and floating console are all trimmed in smooth synthetic leather that certainly feels more premium than some of the scratchy plastics found in Kia’s EV5.»
Driving Impressions
On the road, the C10 demonstrates a comfortable ride and good handling, although some safety systems can excessively “bother” the driver with warnings. Energy consumption efficiency is about 17 kWh per 100 km, which is not a record figure but is sufficient for everyday use.
Despite some shortcomings, the C10 is an interesting offering on the electric vehicle market. It combines modern design, a spacious interior, and a competitive price, making it an option for those looking for an affordable electric crossover. However, like many Chinese cars, it requires refinement in terms of interface intuitiveness and the operation of driver assistance systems.
