Jaguar aims to compete with Bentley, but their GT’s interior takes a completely different path

First look at the interior of the new electric Jaguar GT

The new electric Jaguar GT, whose presentation is scheduled for September, continues to remain camouflaged, but the company has for the first time shown what the car’s interior will look like. This is a radical departure from anything the brand has done before. The interior design is expected not to follow familiar Jaguar themes.

Several unusual solutions immediately catch the eye in the interior:

Final development phase and design

In the final development phase, Jaguar invited a small group of journalists and bloggers to get behind the wheel of the electric car, which is currently called the GT. The exterior of the production model, which has evolved from a two-door coupe into a four-door sedan, is expected to be very similar to the controversial Type 00 concept.

Since the exterior is built on strict straight lines and sharp angles, the interior follows the same path. Photos confirm this, showcasing a completely new steering wheel that looks as if it was taken from a concept car of the 1970s or 1980s. It has thick horizontal spokes, each equipped with large touch surfaces for controlling a wide range of functions.

Control details and technology

It’s hard to say for sure, but it seems these could be touch or haptic buttons instead of physical ones, which is a sign of the times but may disappoint classic car enthusiasts. On the left are controls for calls and voice function, and on the right are cruise control settings. The airbag module is also positioned lower than usual.

The driving position in the new Jaguar GT offers a completely new experience, combining retro aesthetics with cutting-edge technology.

Behind the steering wheel are two large levers with a distinct square shape. The left one seems to be responsible for turning on the lights, indicators, and wipers, while the right lever combines driving modes: reverse, neutral, drive, and park. Although Jaguar aims to compete with Bentley, the dashboard is executed in a minimalist style with a large curved multimedia system screen and an instrument panel without physical dials.

Expected specifications and driving feel

It is known that the new GT from Jaguar is built on its own electric architecture and will weigh about 2700 kg. To compensate for this mass, the car will receive three electric motors with a combined power of over 986 horsepower and a torque of 959 pound-feet.

Regarding driving impressions, according to Andrii Frankel from The Intercooler, the car does not offer insane dynamics like the Tesla Model S Plaid, but is tuned for smooth and progressive acceleration.

This car marks a bold new chapter for Jaguar, which is fully focused on electromobility and the luxury segment. The transition from traditional design to such a radical interior, especially the steering wheel, indicates the brand’s desire not just to follow trends, but to set them. The success of this strategy will depend on how much the public, accustomed to Jaguar’s classic luxury, will accept such innovations. The car’s weight remains a challenge, but the powerful powertrain should provide decent dynamics, oriented more towards comfort than sharp sportiness.
