How Lamborghini Plans to Save Internal Combustion Engines

Lamborghini Temerario: New V8 and Synthetic Fuel

The Temerario is not just a new model for Lamborghini, but the brand’s first car capable of running on synthetic fuel. As stated by the company’s technical director, this will allow the production of ICE vehicles to continue, despite the global trend towards electric cars.

Some may miss the V10 that was left in the past, but Lamborghini did not follow the path of Mercedes-AMG, opting instead for a powerful 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 for the Temerario that revs up to 10,000 per minute. Additional power is provided by three electric motors.

The Future of ICE and Synthetic Fuel

During an interview, company representative Rouven Mohr emphasized that the Temerario can use both conventional and synthetic fuel. He noted:

“I am not claiming that synthetic fuel is better than conventional fuel, but it could be a savior for ICE. The new engine is designed for optimal operation with both types of fuel.”

Despite the development of electric vehicles, Lamborghini is confident that internal combustion engines will remain relevant for a long time. In Mohr’s opinion, electric powertrains still cannot deliver the same emotions as traditional engines.

Synthetic fuel is also important for supporting older Lamborghini models. Since most of the brand’s cars from its 60-year history are still on the road, the company must offer a solution for their operation after potential restrictions on ICE from 2035.

In recent years, automakers have been actively experimenting with alternative energy sources, and synthetic fuel could become an interim solution for sports brands that are not ready to completely abandon traditional engines. Lamborghini seems to have found a balance between innovation and preserving its DNA.
