Japanese Revived the Rarest and Most Iconic Toyota of the 60s

The legendary coupe Toyota 2000 GT returns. The famous sports car of the 60s, even driven by James Bond, is set to be brought back into production.

Recall that the Toyota 2000 GT was produced between 1967 and 1970, with only 351 cars made. For its time, the coupe with a 150-horsepower 2.0-liter six-cylinder engine was decent – it could reach 220 km/h.

For James Bond, two exclusive convertibles were produced. The tall Sean Connery found the Japanese coupe too cramped.

Rocky Auto, a company specializing in the restoration of retro cars, has revived the Toyota 2000 GT. Buyers are offered both a coupe and a convertible. The price is substantial – from 200 thousand dollars, but the original is now several times more expensive.

The modern car is called the Toyota 3000 GT and externally it precisely replicates the 1967 model. The interior is also copied, although the air conditioning and audio system are modern.

Under the hood, however, hides the famous 3.0-liter Toyota 2JZ engine from the 90s Supra. In different versions, it developed 220-320 hp, so the new coupe will be faster than the original. However, upon request, even a hybrid unit from the Toyota Prius can be installed.
