BMW Prepares an Electric Version of the M3: What is Known
BMW continues the development of the electric version of the legendary M3, despite the mixed reactions from car enthusiasts. This model will be sold alongside the traditional gasoline version. Recent spy shots have allowed a closer look at new design details, including production wheel arches and exclusive wheels.
One of the prototypes for the first time showcases finished wings with widened arches, giving the car a more aggressive look. The front-end design is reminiscent of the Neue Klasse concept, and the rear appears more proportional compared to other electric BMW models.
Weight and Technical Features
According to preliminary data, the electric M3 could weigh up to 2675 kg in its full configuration, which is 465 kg more than the conventional version. Interestingly, it will still be lighter than the gasoline M5. The weight is distributed between the axles: 1250 kg at the front and 1475 kg at the rear.
The prototype’s interior still contains temporary elements, but the steering wheel is likely close to the production version. Production of the new model may begin in March 2027, but there is no official confirmation from BMW yet. There are rumors about a possible Touring body variant, although currently, only the sedan is being discussed.
Despite the significant weight difference, the electric M3 promises to be more powerful than its gasoline predecessor. However, questions regarding handling dynamics and weight distribution remain open – how the company will address these challenges will only become clear after the model’s official presentation.
