Anniversary edition of Toyota Crown Sedan for the 70th anniversary resembles a Japanese Maybach

Special editions of Toyota Crown for the Japanese market

Toyota has introduced two special editions of its flagship Crown sedan for the Japanese market. The first is an anniversary model celebrating the series’ 70th year, featuring a two-tone body color and exclusive interior elements. The second is the Limited Matte Metal with a matte paint finish previously used in other Crown lineup models.

The Crown Sedan remains the most prestigious model in the family, maintaining its flagship status throughout all 70 years since the debut of the first generation in 1955. The anniversary edition Special Edition Z “The 70th” is available in two color options: a combination of Precious Metal with Precious White Pearl or Precious Black Pearl. This design resembles premium-class luxury sedans, despite its more affordable price.

Design details and technical features

The special edition is equipped with 20-inch matte black alloy wheels. The interior features exclusive details, such as a laser-engraved anniversary logo on the dashboard and wooden inserts. The Limited Matte Metal model also received a matte paint finish but lacks some of the luxury elements characteristic of the anniversary edition.

Both special editions are offered with two powertrain options: a 2.5-liter hybrid setup or a hydrogen engine borrowed from the Toyota Mirai. The anniversary edition starts at ¥7,550,000 ($52,700), while the Limited Matte Metal costs from ¥8,100,000 ($56,500).

These new versions highlight the Crown’s status as an icon of the Japanese automotive industry. At the same time, they demonstrate how Toyota combines tradition with modern technology, offering buyers unique variants of its flagship. Particularly interesting is the hydrogen option, which reflects the company’s focus on alternative energy sources.
