In a few days Ferrari will present the electric model Luce, and it is still disguised as a box

Ferrari Luce Debut: The Electric Future of Maranello is Near

Only a few days remain until the official presentation of the fully electric Ferrari Luce, which will take place on May 25. This car is designed to take the Italian manufacturer to a new level, as it finally enters a segment it has watched from the sidelines for decades. Ferrari is keeping the car’s shape a secret until the last moment, so even now the prototypes look like they do in the pictures.

Automakers typically use strange test mules in the early stages of development, often assembling them from random panels of existing models. Ferrari did the same with the Luce back in 2024, hiding it under the body of a Maserati Levante. The difference is that prototypes usually shed fake parts and camouflage closer to launch. The Luce did not.

This tester, which looks more like a giant shoebox than a car, was recently spotted by our spy photographers in Maranello. We have seen a similar prototype before, but that doesn’t make it look any less strange.

Suicide Rear Doors?

With the possible exception of the rearview mirrors, every part of the Luce’s exterior is hidden from view. However, as we recently noted, it appears the EV may use suicide rear doors, like the Purosangue. Horizontal daytime running lights at the front are also visible.

Although Ferrari is hiding the exterior until the last moment, it has already shown off a significant part of the interior. Inspired by Ferraris of yesteryear, it will feature beautiful aluminum toggle switches and controls for a retro feel, as well as a digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment display.

Adding to the interior’s theater is an airplane-style toggle switch on the ceiling for the launch control system, located next to the controls for the headlights and heating. Jony Ive and his firm LoveFrom designed both the interior and exterior, so the same blend of old and new should be evident in the body when it finally appears.

Powertrain and Specifications

And finally, the most important part — the powertrain. The Luce will be equipped with a large 122 kWh battery pack that supports charging at up to 350 kW, providing a range of up to 329 miles (530 km). This pack will power four electric motors, which together will produce 986 hp.

Interestingly, despite the secrecy, Ferrari has already managed to show off part of the interior, suggesting the company is betting on a combination of classic design and modern technology. The use of aluminum toggle switches and aviation-style controls hints that the Luce will be not just an electric car, but a true Ferrari with all the appropriate attributes. The involvement of Jony Ive, known for his work on the iPhone design, indicates that the company aims to create not just a car, but a work of art meant to evoke strong emotions. Considering the nearly 1000 horsepower and a range of over 500 km, the Luce has every chance of becoming not only a symbol but also a practical competitor in the premium electric vehicle market. All that remains is to wait until May 25 to see if the final design lives up to the high expectations it has created.
