Limited edition Corvette for the 250th anniversary of the USA
In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, Chevrolet introduced a limited collection called Stars & Steel at the end of last year. It includes 250 specially equipped Corvettes. It is logical to assume that such a small production run automatically makes the car a future collector’s item. However, early signs point to the opposite.
Price and auction results
At the beginning of this month, a 2026 Corvette Stingray convertible in the Stars & Steel package appeared at the Bring a Trailer auction. According to the window sticker, the standard version of the car with the 3LT package costs $88,750. Adding the Stars & Steel package for $9,995 brings the total cost to $98,745. Also considering the sport exhaust system for $1,195 and the engine appearance package for $1,095, the final price reaches $103,570.
This is a fairly significant amount, especially considering that you can now get behind the wheel of a 2027 Corvette Stingray with a brand-new 6.7-liter V8 engine for just $73,495. This may partly explain why bidding for this 2026 Stingray stopped at only $89,400, despite a mileage of just 57 miles (92 km) and it being the 181st of the 250 Stars & Steel Corvette models produced.
Interior and exterior
On the outside, the Corvette looks quite restrained: Arctic White color with graphics inspired by the American flag on the hood. The car is also equipped with simple black 19- and 20-inch wheels and red brake calipers. While the exterior will likely appeal to most, the interior will probably cause controversy.
As part of the American theme, the seats are upholstered in bright blue Santorini Blue leather, accented by red seat belts. The blue leather also extends to parts of the door panels and the transmission tunnel. If you do not like the color blue, then the interior of this C8 will definitely not be to your liking. Additionally, the car does not have the popular front lift option, which is an absolute necessity for many Corvette buyers.
Thus, despite its exclusivity and minimal mileage, the market did not value this limited version as highly as expected. The arrival of the new, more powerful, and cheaper 2027 Corvette Stingray, as well as the specific interior design that may not appeal to everyone, were key factors influencing the low auction price. This is a telling example that even a limited production run does not always guarantee high value on the secondary market, especially when a more modern and affordable alternative appears. The absence of a practical option like the front lift may have also deterred potential buyers who see the Corvette as a daily driver rather than just a collector’s item.
