Visualization of the New Mitsubishi Colt
Digital artist Theottle created unique renderings imagining what the Mitsubishi Colt might look like if it were developed based on the new Renault Clio. In his works, the author borrowed stylistic elements from the Eclipse Cross model to give the car a more expressive image.
Model History and Future
The current Colt debuted in 2023 as a rebranded version of the updated fifth-generation Renault Clio. According to data from France, the next generation Colt may appear in 2027 as a fully electric hatchback based on the Renault R5 E-Tech and Nissan Micra. However, Theottle offers an alternative version with a hybrid power unit, aligning with the development trends of its French “counterpart”.
Mitsubishi and Renault Collaboration
Mitsubishi actively utilizes its alliance with Renault in the European market, offering rebranded models with electric powertrains. These include the Colt (Clio), ASX (Captur), Grandis (Symbioz), and Eclipse Cross (Scenic E-Tech). Initially, changes were limited to the grille and emblems, but later versions received unique bumpers and lighting elements reflecting the brand’s signature style.
Visualization Details
In his work, Theophilus Chin gave the hatchback a more thorough redesign. At the front, he used LED headlights, a grille, a pronounced front bumper, and a hood from the new Eclipse Cross. These elements harmoniously combine with the hatchback’s body, creating an attractive appearance that can compete with Renault’s intricate details.
The car’s profile remained unchanged, but in practice, Mitsubishi could add new wheels for greater individuality. At the rear, the artist proposed a unique bumper, trunk lid, and LED rear lights.
Technical Features
The dimensions of the Mitsubishi Colt will be slightly larger than the previous model, similar to the new Clio, which is 4,116 mm long. The new generation is based on the updated CMF-B platform and offers hybrid powertrains: a 1.2-liter mild-hybrid engine with 113 hp and a full 1.8-liter hybrid with 158 hp.
Prospects for the New Model’s Release
Since the current Colt has been on sale for two years already, Mitsubishi might keep it in the product line for some time before introducing the new generation closer to 2027. It is still unknown whether it will be based on the new Renault Clio or the electric R5 E-Tech.
Theottle’s renderings demonstrate how to combine the technologies of the Mitsubishi-Renault alliance with unique design that meets modern trends. This highlights the importance of visual identity in the competitive compact car market, where consumers increasingly expect not only technical innovations but also aesthetic appeal.
