Forget Supercars – This Corvette is Preparing to Compete with Hypercars

New Segment Leader

Chevrolet has officially unveiled the Corvette ZR1X – a hybrid supercar with a turbocharged V8 producing 1250 hp. This model combines technologies from the ZR1 and E-Ray but goes beyond a simple combination. As stated by Ken Morris, Senior Vice President of General Motors:

“We designed the Corvette platform with the ZR1X in mind. This is the most revolutionary architecture in the model’s history.”

The car’s foundation is the 5.5-liter LT7 engine from the ZR1, which produces 1064 hp. Additional power is provided by a 186 hp electric motor working in conjunction with a 1.9 kWh battery. The all-wheel-drive system is active up to a speed of 160 mph.

Technical Features

The ZR1X has received a unique J59 braking system with 10-piston front calipers and 16.5-inch discs. During tests, the car demonstrated braking at 1.9G. Two chassis versions are available – the Touring version with Michelin PS4S tires and the sporty ZTK Package with Cup 2 tires.

The stated performance is impressive: 0-60 mph in 2 seconds, a quarter mile – less than 9 seconds. Chevrolet is already testing the model on the Nürburgring, where it could become the fastest American production car.

Price and Availability

Production will begin in late 2025 as a 2026 model. The base price is expected to be $250,000, and fully loaded versions could cost up to $300,000. Compared to the $318,760 Mustang GTD, the ZR1X looks more attractive, although actual dealer prices may be higher.

Although the ZR1X is unlikely to break the absolute Nürburgring record, its results could be a real sensation. This is the first Corvette that seriously claims hypercar status while maintaining a relatively affordable price for its class. The manufacturer is clearly aiming to compete with European and Japanese supercars, offering a unique combination of technology and traditional American character.
