Unique Sbarro Alcador GTB Car to be Auctioned
The Swiss atelier-workshop Sbarro created a unique supercar based on the Ferrari 360 Modena. This special order project, known as the Alcador GTB, was first presented back in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show and is now preparing to find a new owner at auction.
The main features of this work are:
History of the Car’s Creation
In the early 2000s, a client named Ludwig Binder approached the small Swiss company Sbarro with an unusual request: to build a unique supercar using the technical base of a Ferrari 360. Founded back in 1971, the Sbarro workshop already had a reputation as a creator of the most diverse and bold automotive projects, so it agreed to implement this idea.
Sbarro left no stone unturned, transforming this 360 into something very unique. Looking at it, one might think it was built from scratch and shares no common parts with any other car.
Design and Exterior
The car received a completely new body. The front end looks particularly dramatic: it lacks a traditional radiator grille, replaced instead by small slits and a massive clamshell-type hood. The designers also completely reworked the roof and windows, giving the car a look more characteristic of classic Ferrari racing prototypes of past years.
Interior Trim
The interior retained some elements of the original Ferrari, such as the steering wheel, analog instruments, center tunnel, and gear selector. However, Sbarro modified the dashboard, angling it more towards the driver and upholstering it in blue suede.
Owners and Condition of the Car
The auction house Artcurial, which is handling the sale of this car, reports that Ludwig Binder owned it until 2020, after which it passed to another German enthusiast. In 2023, the car changed owners again. It is now painted a bright red, although Sbarro originally executed the paintwork in blue.
Auction Expectations
This strange car first appeared for sale in Germany in 2022 with a price of around €395,000. Now, however, it is expected to sell for between €180,000 and €260,000. This significantly exceeds the value of a standard Ferrari 360 Modena, making the lot a true collector’s rarity.
This project is undoubtedly strange, rare, and easily recognizable as a Sbarro creation. Whether it becomes a forgotten design experiment or a valuable collector’s item will be decided by its future owner.
Similar projects demonstrate how profound the transformation of a series-produced car can be when workshops with rich imagination get involved. The price at auction is often determined not only by the technical component but also by the history, exclusivity, and boldness of the design solution. The drop in the expected price compared to 2022 may indicate both a change in market preferences and the fact that niche cars need time to find their perfect admirer who will appreciate all the uniqueness and work invested in creating such a masterpiece.
