Forgotten Cadillac Flagship Sedan Still Being Produced in China at Lowest Price in History

Cadillac CT6 Update for Chinese Market

Over five years have passed since the Cadillac CT6 disappeared from American dealerships, but in China this flagship sedan has not only survived but continues to evolve. In preparation for 2026, the CT6 model remains a key part of Cadillac’s lineup for the Chinese market, receiving another update to meet the constant demand for premium sedans.

Availability and Pricing Policy

The second-generation full-size luxury sedan is significantly cheaper than its American predecessor. Cadillac has again lowered the price as part of the update, now the model starts at 289,900 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately $40,700 USD at the current exchange rate.

For comparison: the first-generation CT6 in the US in the 2020 model year started at $58,995 for the base Luxury trim, up to $74,495 for the Premium Luxury version and $96,495 for the top Platinum.

Considering inflation, these amounts today would range from $74,823 to $123,385. Thus, the current Chinese version costs almost half as much as what American buyers once paid.

Design and Interior Updates

In 2023, Cadillac conducted a thorough facelift of the CT6 for the Chinese market, updating the exterior and interior. The latest version has hardly changed, but is now available with a bright white interior leather called Cloud Tranquility White.

In China, three main versions of the full-size sedan are offered: base model, variant from 309,900 yuan (approximately $43,500), and top version at 329,900 yuan ($46,300).

Technical Specifications and Innovations

The heart of the model is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 233 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

One of the key changes for 2026 is an updated version of the Magnetic Ride Control system, which according to Cadillac has received a number of improvements and is now standard for all trims.

The adaptive suspension constantly adjusts damping using magnetorheological fluid and electromagnets, improving comfort and handling. The front uses double wishbones, while the rear features an aluminum multi-link independent suspension.

Interior Equipment and Technologies

The interior is adorned with a curved 33-inch display with 9K resolution, running on the latest version of Cadillac’s operating system and supporting wireless updates. Buyers can order the CT6 with GM’s semi-autonomous Super Cruise driving system, which includes six cameras, six millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars.

Interestingly, the system does not have lidar, which has become quite common for premium cars in the local market.

Among other important features are a powerful 19-speaker AKG audio system including headrest speakers, active noise cancellation, adaptive lighting system, wireless smartphone charging, and numerous elements with matte aluminum trim.

Market Popularity

Despite Cadillac’s efforts, the CT6 occupies only a small share of the brand’s sales in China. In the first six months of the year, only 209 units were sold, reminding us that even in the developed Chinese luxury car market, not every flagship finds its audience.

This situation may be related to growing competition from local manufacturers offering electrified models with advanced technologies. Additionally, Chinese buyers are increasingly preferring crossovers and SUVs, reducing demand for large sedans, even in the premium segment. Cadillac will likely focus on adapting its future models to these trends to maintain presence in one of the world’s most important markets.
