Nissan’s plant in Canton, Mississippi, which has been producing the Nissan Frontier pickup since 2012, has reached a significant production milestone. Demand for this model has grown considerably this year, accompanied by a slight price increase for the 2027 model year.
Historic milestone in Mississippi
Since 2003, the assembly plant in Canton has been one of Nissan’s most important manufacturing sites in North America. Currently, it produces the Nissan Altima and Nissan Frontier models. This week, the plant reached an important milestone.
After moving Frontier production from the plant in Smyrna, Tennessee to Canton in 2012, the factory has just produced its one-millionth Frontier pickup. Counting from 1997, when this model first appeared on the market, total sales in the US exceed two million vehicles.
“This milestone reflects the skill of our team in Canton and the strength of the community that supports them. The precision, pride, and consistency with which Canton operates are felt in every truck that comes off the line,” said Victor Taylor, Vice President of Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, and Product Engineering at Nissan in the US.
Growing demand and market performance
Although Nissan has faced many challenges over the past 18 months, the Frontier remains an important model for the company. Last year, 65,232 such pickups were sold in the US. Demand has grown particularly this year: 21,411 units were sold in the first quarter, up 47.9% compared to 14,481 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025. In May, sales rose 24% year-over-year, reaching 6,773 units, which was the best May for the Frontier since 2010.
Wide selection and pricing policy
The Frontier’s popularity is undoubtedly boosted by a wide range of available versions, as well as competitive pricing. The cheapest 2026 model, the Frontier S, starts at $32,150, making it cheaper than the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger. Those with more funds can choose more specialized versions such as the Frontier Pro-X and Pro-4X, with prices starting at $38,570 and $41,870 respectively.
Prices for 2027 have been slightly increased. The base model will now start at $32,490, while the top-tier Frontier Pro-4X Crew Cab 4×4 with a six-foot bed will cost up to $42,690.
Reaching the milestone of one million Frontiers produced at the Canton plant is an important signal of stability for Nissan, which has recently faced financial and organizational challenges. The nearly 48% sales increase in the first quarter indicates that the pickup remains in demand in its segment, despite stiff competition from American manufacturers. It is worth noting that Nissan has managed to maintain a price advantage over key rivals, which likely became one of the demand drivers. The price increase for 2027 is minimal, allowing the company not to lose this competitive edge. Overall, this milestone underscores the importance of local manufacturing for Nissan in North America and demonstrates that even in difficult times, proven models can ensure stable sales.
