In Germany, the new 2020 Volkswagen Golf has been officially presented. Sales of the eighth-generation hatchback will start in December.
Volkswagen Golf 2020 Design
In design – no revolutions. The Volkswagen Golf 8 looks familiar, and its silhouette is recognizable. The hatchback has a new “face” with a narrow grille and slanting headlights, and the rear pillars have an increased angle of inclination.
By the way, LED optics are standard, and for an extra charge, they can be matrix.
The new Volkswagen Golf still uses the MQB platform and is comparable in size to its predecessor. It reaches 4284 mm in length, 1789 mm in width, and 1456 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2636 mm.
Volkswagen Golf 2020 Interior and Equipment
The interior shows a kinship with the Volkswagen Touareg and Passat. The instrument panel is now virtual in all Golfs, and next to it is a touchscreen with a diagonal of 8.25 or 10 inches.
The small joystick of the robotic DSG gearbox looks very unusual.
The basic configuration of the Volkswagen Golf 8 is expanded and now includes keyless access, climate control, automatic braking systems, and lane monitoring. The top-of-the-line Style option includes three-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, and a semi-autonomous driving system.
Among the options, it’s worth noting the Car2X technology, which allows establishing communication with other cars or “smart” infrastructure.
Volkswagen Golf 2020 Specifications
Right off the bat, the new Golf 8 will receive eight engines.
These are gasoline turbo engines with a volume of 1.0 l (90 and 110 hp) and 1.5 l (130 and 150 hp) and 2.0-liter turbo diesels with 115 and 150 hp.
Gasoline versions (except the 90-hp one) can be supplemented with a 48-volt hybrid setup, and plug-in hybrids Volkswagen Golf with 204 and 245 hp are available. A new VW Golf GTI is promised in a year, and a 300-hp Golf R is confirmed. As before, the Volkswagen Golf is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed robot with two DSG clutches. Among the options are adaptive dampers.
Certainly, there is also a dynamic stabilization system. More about EPS and its diagnostics can be read here.
