Honda’s Strong Presence at SEMA
The SEMA show is traditionally dedicated to car tuning and performance enhancement, so it’s no surprise that Honda Racing Corporation will actively participate in the event in Las Vegas. In addition to parts and accessories, the company will bring eight vehicles, including the Passport TrailSport HRC concept.
Features of the Passport TrailSport HRC
This concept, created for adventure, has modified bumpers that improve the approach and departure angles. Additionally, aluminum underbody guards are installed, the suspension is raised by 2.4 inches (60 mm), and the prototype wheels are fitted with larger off-road tires.
The updates don’t end there: the crossover received new shock absorbers, a custom exhaust system, and side steps that also serve as protection. The vehicle is also equipped with a winch with a capacity of 8000 pounds (3629 kg) and a built-in compressor.
The exterior of the Passport TrailSport HRC is finished in a warm orange color with branded graphic elements and a contrasting black roof. The vehicle features a full-size spare tire on the rear doors and a low-profile roof basket with an awning. It is complemented by numerous auxiliary LED lights, controlled by a special multi-zone lighting system.
The interior features a stylish two-tone finish with blue Alcantara upholstery, blue contrast stitching and accents, as well as a Garmin navigation system.
Rally Version of the Civic Type R
Another exhibit was the Civic Type R HRC Rally XP—a production hatchback prepared for participation in the American Rally Association’s 2WD class. It is equipped with production tuning parts, including an intercooler, an oil cooler kit, and adjustable camber/caster plates. The car also features a vented hood, a retuned suspension, and an improved cooling system.
In addition to production components, prototype parts were used: more powerful brakes, a custom exhaust system, and a carbon fiber hydraulic handbrake lever. Underbody protection and special rally shock absorbers are also installed.
This vehicle was recently tested in Texas with Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson and, according to representatives, “is under evaluation by HRC for future commercial racing programs.”
Updated Acura Integra
Following its debut in 2024, the company will present an updated prototype of the Acura Integra Type S HRC. It was equipped with new performance components, including forged wheels based on the wheels of the ARX-06 race car.
Details about the model are limited, but it is known to have received improved aerodynamics, a revised suspension, and reduced weight.
Other Honda Exhibits
In addition to the listed models, HRC will show the Baja Passport Race Truck, Civic Type R Super GT, and Civic Type R TCR. They will be accompanied by the Acura ARX-06, a winning IndyCar, and a “wall of prototype performance parts.”
All presented concepts and prototypes demonstrate Honda’s strategy to expand its presence in the world of motorsports and tuning. The focus on production-based but radically modified models may indicate the company’s plans to offer customers ready-made solutions for competition or extreme use. This also highlights the growing competition in the market for high-performance and off-road versions of production cars.
