Ukraine hosted a stage of the World Motocross Championship among crews. The prestigious competitions were held on May 18-19 at the track of the sports and technical club “Sona” in Bucha near Kyiv.
Moreover, a stage of the European Motocross Championship on ATVs was also held in Bucha. The most famous motocross aces came to Ukraine – the most titled racer in this category, Daniël Willemsen (he has won the championship 10 times), two-time world champion Etienne Bax, and Kevin Saar.
In total, thirty crews from different countries arrived for the World Championship stage, and almost 20 athletes competed on ATVs.
The competition took place on a challenging track 1800 m long with 17 turns. It features 22 ramps. So, there were plenty of spectacular jumps on motorcycles, which could not but please the numerous spectators.
In general, STC “Sona” has been hosting Ukrainian and international competitions for two decades, and this track is considered one of the best in the country.
Among the crews, Etienne Bax and Kaspars Stupelis on WSP Zabel had no equals.
However, Daniël Willemsen did not reach the finish. In the quad category, Kevin Saar on a Honda won. The triumphant celebrated the victory very emotionally, especially Etienne Bax.
In total, about 30 thousand spectators visited the World Championship stage in Bucha over two days. Of course, it wasn’t just about the races, as visitors could also visit a retro motorcycle exhibition, a concert by Ukrainian showbiz stars, or the food court.
The competitions were truly impressive and conducted at a very high level. We hope that the World Motocross Championship stage will now become a regular event in Ukraine.
