British company Twisted presents a modified Volkswagen Beetle in Baja style

British company Twisted, known for its modified Land Rover Defenders, has surprised car enthusiasts with a new project – a redesigned Volkswagen Beetle in Baja style. This style became popular in California in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Features of the new TBug model:

History of the Baja Bug

The first Baja Bugs appeared in Southern California as a response to the popularity of off-road racing. Enthusiasts simply trimmed the body of a standard Beetle, raised the suspension, and got an affordable off-roader.

“This style inspired thousands of car enthusiasts in the 1970s and even became the basis for the iconic Sand Scorcher radio-controlled model”

Project Details

Twisted retained the basic look of the original Baja Bugs but added modern elements. The rear of the body is trimmed to showcase the air-cooled engine. The interior can be customized, which is typical for all of the company’s projects.

The price and number of vehicles the company plans to produce have not yet been disclosed. However, considering the cost of their previous projects (around £150,000 for a Defender), it can be expected that the TBug will also be expensive.

This is not Twisted’s first venture outside Land Rover. The company has previously worked on customizing boats and the Suzuki Jimny. Similar initiatives are being observed in other specialized ateliers, which are beginning to experiment with new platforms despite the success of their flagship models.
