New Ferrari Amalfi: An Updated Grand Tourer
After six years of waiting, Ferrari has introduced the all-new Amalfi model – a front-engined grand tourer that replaces the Roma as the most accessible option in the brand’s lineup. Initial reactions to the design have been divided: some consider it a logical evolution of the Roma, others – not a bold enough step forward.
Although the Amalfi does not impress with radical changes on the outside, Ferrari engineers have significantly updated the technical part. The twin-turbocharged gasoline V6 received upgraded turbines, a new cylinder block, lightweight camshafts, and updated electronics. The gearbox has become faster and smoother. The steering and braking system have also been improved.
Updated Interior and Technologies
Inside, Ferrari has brought back physical buttons, abandoning impractical touch panels. The instrument panel has been completely redesigned, and the multimedia system has received updates. The car has also been equipped with modern driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control and surround-view cameras.
As noted by Ollie Kew from Top Gear, the best thing about the new car is its name. Amalfi, unlike previous unusual Ferrari model names, references a picturesque Italian village and classic literature.
The premiere of the Amalfi took place with a limited circle of journalists, who have already shared their impressions. Despite the conservative approach to design, the new model has every chance to repeat the success of the Roma thanks to improved dynamics and a more thoughtful interior. Ferrari traditionally keeps details about price and availability under wraps, but the Amalfi is expected to remain the “entry-level” option in the brand’s lineup.
Interestingly, the choice of name for the new model turned out to be not just a marketing move. The village of Amalfi has deep historical roots – it is there that the action of John Webster’s play “The Duchess of Malfi,” written back in the 17th century, takes place. This is a reminder that behind Ferrari’s modern technology, Italian culture and automotive traditions always stand.
