New Ram Pickup: What is Known
Ram is preparing to introduce a new midsize pickup for the North American market. According to reports, the vehicle will feature a body-on-frame construction, similar to the Jeep Gladiator, allowing it to compete with the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. Production is set to begin in 2027 at a plant in Illinois.
The model is expected to become the successor to the Ram Dakota, which was discontinued in 2011. The new pickup will be available exclusively in a four-door (Crew Cab) version. According to Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, this model is designed to fill the niche left after the discontinuation of the 1500 Classic.
Price and Specifications
To be competitive, the new model is expected to start at approximately $33,000 – on par with its main competitors. Among the possible powertrains under consideration is a 3.0-liter bi-turbo Hurricane engine, which is already used in other Stellantis models.
The last midsize pickup from Ram in the US was the Dakota, but its production was discontinued in 2011.
Currently, Ram offers two compact pickups in foreign markets: one based on the Jeep Compass, and the other a body-on-frame model, which is an analogue of the Fiat Titano. The new model is set to become a serious player in the segment, especially if the manufacturer adds a more powerful version to the lineup, similar to the Ranger Raptor.
Despite limited information, it is clear that Ram is betting on traditional body-on-frame construction, which could interest fans of more robust and capable pickups. The model’s release in 2027 will give the company time for further refinement and analysis of market trends.
