Hyundai Unveils New Elexio Electric SUV for the Chinese Market
Hyundai, together with its Chinese partner BAIC, has unveiled the new Elexio electric SUV, specifically developed for the Chinese market. This is the first electric vehicle created by the Beijing Hyundai joint venture.
Model Features
The central element of the cabin is a massive 27-inch display that stretches from the center console to the front passenger seat. In addition to the main screen, a separate display for instruments is placed in front of the driver.
This is an interesting choice, and it is not yet known if Hyundai plans to use such a layout for models outside of China
Technical Specifications
The Elexio received a new design language that distinguishes it from the Ioniq lineup. The front is executed without a radiator grille, with sporty air intakes and an LED strip under the headlights. The rear is adorned with high-mounted LED taillights and graphic elements on the bumper.
The manufacturer has not yet revealed detailed technical specifications, but it is known that the car will receive a battery that will provide over 700 km of range according to the Chinese CTLC cycle. Fast charging will allow the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in 27 minutes.
Production of the Elexio will begin at Beijing Hyundai’s facilities in China. It is not yet known if the model is planned for export to other markets. This step is part of Hyundai’s strategy, which has invested $1.1 billion in the joint venture with BAIC to develop electric vehicles tailored for the Chinese market.
The Chinese market remains key for global automakers, despite fierce competition from local brands. Hyundai hopes that the Elexio will help the company strengthen its position in the world’s largest automotive market, where demand for electric vehicles continues to grow rapidly.
