He Turned the Most Boring GTO into a True Power Monster

Modified 1974 Pontiac GTO Listed for Auction

The 1974 Pontiac GTO was the last in the lineup before the model disappeared from the market for three decades. This year is considered the least successful for the GTO due to its reduced dimensions and weaker engine. However, this particular specimen is far from original—it has been transformed into a true weapon on wheels.

The car, painted in Buccaneer Red, has been owned by the same person for 43 years. Instead of the weak 5.7-liter V8, there is now an 8.0-liter engine with aluminum heads, a Holley Sniper fuel injection system, and other powerful upgrades. Although exact power figures are not specified, it likely significantly exceeds the original 200 hp.

Technical Upgrades

The suspension and brakes have also undergone serious changes. A front subframe assembly from Detroit Speed has been installed, along with a Quadralink rear suspension with adjustable shock absorbers, and powerful Wilwood brakes. Wide 19-inch Billet Specialties wheels fit thanks to widened wheel arches.

The owner claims to have driven only 12,000 miles in 43 years, of which 2,400 miles were after the completion of the upgrades.

The interior has also been updated: the original red seats have been replaced with black Corbeau ones, a Momo steering wheel, sports instruments, and a roll cage have been added. Despite the radical changes, the car has been used carefully.

This approach to restoration sparks debate among enthusiasts. Some appreciate the aggressive Pro Touring style, others prefer more conservative modernizations that preserve the historical appearance. Be that as it may, this GTO is a true work of automotive art.
