Next Toyota SUV Could Become a Stylish Coupe-Hybrid

Toyota is Preparing a New Generation Harrier

Toyota is actively updating its lineup of compact crossovers. Following the recent unveiling of the updated RAV4, the company is preparing another interesting project – a new generation Harrier, which could become an alternative for fans of more elegant SUVs.

The second generation Venza, which was essentially a rebadged Harrier for the American market, appeared in 2020. However, in 2024, the model was discontinued in the US, replaced by the Crown Signia. Meanwhile, the Japanese Harrier continues to be sold, receiving updates.

Expected Changes in the New Model

According to Japanese sources, the next generation Harrier will get a more refined design with a lower roof and a longer wheelbase – around 2770 mm. This will bring the model closer to premium coupe-crossovers like the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe or Audi Q5 Sportback.

The interior is expected to feature a modern 12.9-inch multimedia system and improved trim quality. The technical part will likely remain on the TNGA-K platform, but with updated hybrid powertrains, including a new turbocharged 1.5-liter engine.

The launch of the new model was initially planned for 2026, but due to safety scandals at Toyota, the timelines have shifted. It is now expected that the new Harrier/Venza will debut only in 2027. For the American market, the model will probably again be offered exclusively in hybrid versions, as was the case with the RAV4.

Interestingly, Toyota continues to experiment with different styles in the same segment, offering customers a choice between the classic RAV4 and the more stylish Harrier/Venza. This strategy allows them to reach a wider audience without losing the loyalty of the brand’s traditional buyers.
