The Chinese electric supercar Yangwang U9 Xtreme set a new record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife — 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, becoming the first production electric car to “break the seven-minute barrier” on the legendary track. The driver was the experienced German racer Moritz Kranz.
The fastest laps on the Nordschleife now belong to Chinese electric cars. In the spring, the record was held by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (7:04.957), but the Yangwang team — the premium brand of BYD — has been working on its supercar since the summer of 2023. And the result was not long in coming.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is an upgraded version of the “regular” U9, which has 1306 hp. In the new modification, each of the four electric motors produces 555 kW, so the total power exceeds 3000 hp. The car is built on the e4 platform with a 1200-volt electrical architecture, has an active electro-hydraulic suspension and special Giti Tire semi-slick tires rated for speeds up to 500 km/h.
Twice a World Record Holder
In August, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme reached 472.41 km/h at the ATP test track in Germany, and in September it surpassed itself — 496.22 km/h! This is the highest figure among all road cars, including gasoline supercars.
Exclusive Only for the Chosen Few
The U9 Xtreme production run is limited to 30 units. The price has not yet been announced, although the regular U9 (1306 hp) in China has become more expensive, costing 1,800,000 yuan — approximately UAH 7.2 million.
