New Hybrid SUV from Lotus
Shift Towards Hybrids
Five years ago, Lotus promised a full transition to electric models, releasing cars such as the Eletre, Emeya, and Evija. However, similar to other manufacturers, the British brand is now returning to hybrid technology, not completely abandoning internal combustion engines.
The first step in this direction will be a hybrid version of the Eletre, which combines the company’s electric ambitions with the practicality of traditional engines. A year ago, Lotus already hinted at the development of a hybrid system, but the details remained secret. Now the situation is changing.
Plans for Hybrid Models
During the latest financial results meeting, CEO Feng Qingfeng confirmed that the first Lotus hybrid car will have a power output of 912 hp. The model will arrive in Chinese showrooms in the first quarter of 2026, with deliveries to Europe starting later that same year.
The company plans to release three hybrid models. If the first is an updated Eletre, the second could be a hybrid version of the Emeya sedan. The third model, a smaller SUV named Vision X, is expected in 2027 and will position itself below the Eletre.
Hyper Hybrid Technology

The new powertrain, named “Hyper Hybrid,” is based on a 900-volt electric platform that provides ultra-fast charging. The system allows the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in ten minutes when connected to appropriate infrastructure.
The internal combustion engine will function as a generator, charging the battery while the vehicle is in motion. Details about the engine have not been disclosed yet, but it is likely to be a turbocharged four-cylinder unit.
Expanding Market Reach

Feng explained that hybrid models will allow the company to reach more markets, especially in regions where the transition to fully electric vehicles is happening more slowly.
The introduction of hybrid models offers more choice for luxury car buyers and will help us expand into markets such as Italy, Spain, and Saudi Arabia, where EV adoption is slower.
Advantages of Hybrids
Lotus hybrid models will not only provide performance comparable to their electric counterparts but will also significantly increase the driving range. If the electric Eletre has a range from 254 to 373 miles, hybrids with the Hyper Hybrid system will be able to travel up to 684 miles without refueling.

This step reflects a general trend in the automotive industry, where manufacturers are seeking a balance between environmental goals and practical consumer needs. Fast charging and increased range make hybrids attractive to those not ready to fully switch to electric, especially in regions with limited infrastructure. By maintaining high performance standards, Lotus demonstrates flexibility in responding to the challenges of the modern market.
