Tom Thinks Your Lexus LC Needs a Grille from an Old Corolla

Update for the Iconic Coupe

While Lexus hints at its electric future with the LFA concept, the V8 era isn’t ready to give up its position at Tom’s Racing just yet. The Japanese tuning atelier has introduced a new “Tom’s Edition” package for the LC coupe and convertible, aiming to give the existing model another moment in the spotlight.

Design Changes

The core of the update is a redesigned front end that noticeably changes the car’s face. A special bumper shrinks the familiar spindle grille into a smaller, separate opening, while the lower air intake remains wide and attention-grabbing. New triangular side air intakes are positioned under the headlights. Tom’s Racing insists the car “retains the spindle grille shape of the LC, while combining it with the spindle body concept that Lexus has been promoting in recent years.”

Reading between the lines, this likely refers to the hourglass-shaped lines at the front and rear.

The car’s profile appears unchanged, except for new 21-inch alloy wheels. The rear received a new bumper extension with more body-colored details, four exhaust pipes, and a subtle diffuser, complemented by a restrained spoiler on the trunk lid.

Technical Features and Price

Under the hood, the naturally aspirated V8 engine remains untouched, delivering the same 471 hp (351 kW) and 540 Nm of torque. Tom’s Racing is reportedly exploring performance enhancement possibilities but has ruled out any turbocharging.

For those wanting to purchase a complete LC Tom’s Edition directly from the tuner, the price starts from 25,500,050 yen (approximately $171,000) with all options. Current LC owners can order the full kit for a lower price of 9,950,050 yen (approximately $67,000). Broken down: 4,180,000 yen ($28,000) for the exterior styling package, 3,740,000 yen ($25,000) for the interior upgrade, and 913,000 yen ($6,100) for mechanical enhancements, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.

Other Models from Tom’s Racing

Tom’s Racing brought its latest creations to the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, presenting the LC alongside three other Lexus-based builds: the GX, LX, and LM. Each received its own interpretation of the Tom’s Edition treatment.

Lexus GX Tom’s Edition

Starting with the GX, the body kit is inspired by trail running crossovers, explaining the bright accents and robust stance. It includes front and rear bumper extensions, wider fenders, hood overlays, and side sills with integrated steps. The interior hasn’t been shown yet, but Tom’s Racing promised “renewable materials, renewable energy, and cyclical design.” Features include the use of “deerskin that would otherwise be discarded,” combined with eco-leather made from mushrooms. The tuner is currently working on performance upgrades for the bi-turbo V6 engine and is considering various wheels and tires. The price will be announced later.

Lexus LX Tom’s Edition

The Lexus LX Tom’s Edition looks much more restrained. The dark exterior features subtle body kit elements, paired with massive 22-inch alloy wheels and new interior upholstery. Power upgrades are currently in development. The price for a new LX Tom’s Edition with the full package is 27,419,500 yen (approximately $173,400), while upgrade-only options can cost 12,919,500 yen (approximately $81,700).

Lexus LM Tom’s Edition Gold Limited

Rounding out the lineup is the Lexus LM Tom’s Edition Gold Limited, which is fully dedicated to a prosperity theme with champagne gold accents all over the body. It rides on unique multi-spoke wheels and has redesigned aero elements, including a new splitter, side sills, and rear bumper extension. The interior mirrors the theme with gold diamond-stitched seats and matching trim on the doors and center console. This ultra-luxury minivan costs from 26,500,500 yen (approximately $167,600) for the full package. For owners wanting to convert an existing LM, the transformation will cost 11,500,500 yen (approximately $72,700).

Such tuning projects for Lexus’s flagship models demonstrate that even in the era of an active shift to electric vehicles, there remains a steady demand for personalization and enhancing the status of traditional internal combustion engine cars, especially in markets like Japan. Tom’s Racing’s emphasis on unique materials, including eco-friendly ones, and exclusive design indicates that luxury tuning is increasingly focusing not only on power but also on individuality and a sense of rarity, offering an alternative to mass production.
